Description
Divina Villa Riserva Duca della Corgna – Gamay del Trasimeno DOCG Reserve
Umbrian Reserve Red Wine – Selection from Trasimeno Hills
Divina Villa Riserva Duca della Corgna is an exceptional red wine produced with 100% Gamay del Trasimeno grapes, cultivated in the finest vineyards of associated producers located at an altitude of approximately 300-350 meters above sea level, on the prestigious hills of Castiglione del Lago, Paciano, and Panicale.
Terroir and Vineyard Characteristics
The soil in this renowned wine-growing area is predominantly of sedimentary formation, with textures ranging from sandy-clay to sandy, ideal for cultivating the Gamay varietal. These pedoclimatic characteristics give the wine a distinctive minerality and unique aromatic elegance.
Late Harvest and Selection
The manual harvest typically begins around October 15th. Being a rather late-ripening variety, the grapes are picked slightly beyond optimal maturity to facilitate the solubilization of organoleptic substances and intensify the aromas. The controlled yield per hectare is 4000-4500 kg/ha, with an annual production of 25-30 hl/ha, ensuring quality and concentration.
Artisanal Winemaking
Once they arrive at the winery, the selected grapes are destemmed and gently pressed, then sent to fermentation. The contact between skins and must lasts approximately 20 days, a crucial period for extracting color, tannins, and polyphenolic compounds that characterize this structured red wine.
Malolactic Fermentation and Refinement
After racking, the wine is placed in large vats in temperature-controlled rooms to promote malolactic fermentation, a process that softens acidity and enriches the taste profile.
Aging in French Oak Barrels
In total, Divina Villa Riserva remains for 12 months in large French oak barrels, where it acquires complexity, structure, and spicy notes. It is then bottled starting in February, two years after harvest, and undergoes an additional 7 months of bottle aging before release.
