Musco: The Ancestral White Crafted by Hand, Earth, and Time
“Musco” by Il Palazzone is far more than a bottle of white wine; it is a liquid manifesto, an act of viticultural archaeology, and a sensory time machine. Created out of a profound desire to keep the memory of a timeless history alive, this wine seamlessly blends deep historical awareness with ancient tools and knowledge. Released in micro-quantities with strictly numbered bottles, Musco is the ultimate expression of wild, untouched Umbrian tradition.
The journey begins in a micro-vineyard field-blended (promiscuous planting) with local indigenous grape varieties intermingled directly along the rows, faithfully mirroring the ancient farming customs of the region. Rooted in hillside slopes with a prime Eastern exposure and rich volcanic and clay soils, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand. From that point on, modern technology disappears: the wine is crafted completely without electricity, deep inside an ancient tuff cave carved underneath a chestnut forest.
The vinification process follows ancestral rituals. The hand-picked grapes undergo skin-contact maceration in open chestnut vats without any mechanical punching down. Pressing is carried out gently with the aid of a historic manual basket press, and fermentation kicks off spontaneously in casks utilizing only indigenous yeasts. Musco then matures quietly in chestnut barrels before undergoing manual bottling and a long refinement in glass. The result is an extraordinary, textured, and deeply emotional white wine with a vibrant profile showing ripe orchard fruits, smoky volcanic minerals, wild herbs, and dried nuts. A profound meditation wine made for true connoisseurs seeking the authentic, untamed taste of antiquity.
